The success of the Vera Project at the Seattle Center is a vibrant reminder that young people in the Puget Sound love music and thrive when offered a safe, inexpensive place to enjoy it.
Since 2000 this all-ages music venue has hosted some of the biggest names on the Seattle music scene including Why? Band of Horses, TV on the Radio and The Shins, all while keeping ticket prices to a minimum at anywhere from $8 to $13. This is possible because of volunteers, donations, fundraisers and grants. Vera's youth volunteers run the entire program from the front desk to the lights and sound while producing these live concerts.
The Vera Project supports not only fans, but the artists as well. They have a system for accepting requests by musicians and bands that want to perform on their stage. You can find more out about this, the many classes, volunteer and internship opportunities they offer by visiting their website. www.theveraproject.org.
