February 13, 2009 (All day)

It's that time of year again, baseball season is just around the corner and to start the season off, here is a preview of your Everett Community College Trojans.

In the 2008 season the Trojans finished second in the NWAACC North division with an 18-6 in league record and a 29-13 record overall. They had four freshmen make the North division all-star team with infielder Cody Atkinson, outfielder Mike Malland, and pitcher Ricky Holm making the first team, and pitcher David Benson making the second team. Garret Breda finished eighth in the NWAACC in batting average, hitting a solid .411. Curt Nelson was right behind him at tenth with a .391 batting average. Ricky Holm finished second in wins with eight. As a team they had the fourth most strikeouts by their pitching staff with 318. The Trojans ended up missing the Champions tournament after losing the first two games of a best of three series with Skagit Valley.

This season the Trojans look to come out strong. Last season the team was very freshmen heavy but this year that has converted into a mature and experienced team that looks to capture a division title. The three most prominent returning players are Ricky Holm, Arlo Evasick and Michael Malland, all of which will be moving on to Seattle University to help join a baseball program that is restarting after being out of commission for more than three decades.

As of Jan. 13, the Trojans are picked to finish 6th in the NWAACC, receiving 29 poll points and one number one vote. There are three other teams from the North division in the top eight, Bellevue is ranked at second, Edmonds CC is picked fourth and Skagit Valley is picked at seventh.
