After two seasons of being on top of the NWAACC North Division, the Everett women's basketball team lost to second-place Peninsula Community College, ending their chance of making the tournament.
The Trojans played tough through halftime losing 34-37 with sophomore Keena Hopkins leading her team with 12 points and freshman Morgan Thomas contributing eight.
With three minutes and 45 seconds to go in the second half, the Trojans took the lead at 63-61 after Housden took the ball strong to the hoop and finished while drawing a foul.
With less than a minute to go in the game, the score was tied up at 69-69 when Peninsula scored.
The Trojans took the ball and Hopkins found Housden wide-open underneath the basket, but the freshman missed the shot with three seconds left and Peninsula won the game 69-71.
"I think it was one of our best games we have played as a team together," Housden said. "Obviously losing is horrible, but we played our hardest and at least I know there wasn't much more that we could do."
"I thought this was our best game that we have played as a team when you put the two halves together," Thomas said. "Our shooting was phenomenal; it was just our rebounding that hurt us."
The loss meant that it would be the last game for the three sophomores on the team as the fans got a final glimpse of Keena Hopkins, Brooke Russell and Ashley Larsen.
Hopkins was a force in the North Division all season as she was in the top ten for points, three-point shots, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Russell was fourth in the league for three-point shots [16] and ninth in steals [19]. Larsen shot over 46 percent from the field and averaged more than eight points a game.
"I am going to miss my sophomores," Thomas said. "I thought they all played a [great] game this last game. Now it's just all about next year."
Head Coach Chet Hovde says that now it is up to him and his staff to go out and recruit every night to get ready for next year. Hovde is excited for next season to bring back Housden, Thomas and Karissa Tri, who combined for 43 of the team's 69 points and shot 51 percent combined.
The Trojans finished in fifth place behind Skagit Valley Community College, Peninsula, Whatcom Community College and Bellevue Community College with an 8-8 record.
