With humor coupled superbly with terrifying moments, "Drag Me to Hell" may in fact be the best horror movie to hit the big screen in a long time.
Writer and director Sam Raimi delivers with this triumphant return to horror that will hopefully resurrect the arguably dead and dull genre. What makes "Hell" so incredible is its ability to refrain from taking itself too seriously and deliver a fun, entertaining experience.
Alison Lohman and Justin Long lead a relatively small, but very talented and comedic cast. Lorna Raver gives a great performance portraying her creepy and terribly deranged character.
L.A. loan officer Christine Brown (Lohman) meets an old woman (Raver) who curses her after being refused an extension on a loan. She encounters all sorts of tormenting visions and eerie sounds which drive her to seek some method to reverse the curse. Christine, with the help of her boyfriend (Long) must find a way to get rid of the curse before the third day or she will meet her demise.
As in Raimi's previous films, his latest project is hilariously campy, yet stays true to the horror aspect of the genre with his timely use of scares, suspense and gore. The silliness and horror of the film is perfectly concocted into one hell of a thrill ride.
