Sasquatch bands know how to have fun
Date:
June 5, 2009 (All day)

The first of the big festivals, Sasquatch, has hit us, and they pulled no punches. The festival had a killer line-up on every day which included big names like Nine Inch Nails and the Kings of Leon and also local bands like Mad Rad and Champagne Champagne.

While at Sasquatch I discovered that although I might not like all types of music, if it's a good show, it's a good show. What I mean is while I don't listen to hip-hop music, Mad Rad's set was one of my favorites of the whole festival. And while I would listen to Animal Collective, there set was one of the worst shows I had been to.

This has led me to the conclusion that while some bands have great music others know how to have fun. And the key to a good festival is to have as many bands that know how to have fun as possible. That is what Sasquatch did.

On the first day the Yeah Yeah Yeahs almost outshined the headliner, the Kings of Leon. The show that they put on was one of the funniest I have ever been to. There lead singer, Karen O, dressed in green neon tights with a multi- colored neon dress type thing which brought the party atmosphere to the Gorge. While the Kings were good, they brought a more mellow rock atmosphere to the amphitheater. This changed the dynamic of the night dramatically.

The second and third days were days of discovery and wonder. Without which, I would never have been blessed with knowing Gogol Bordello, Fences and Champagne Champagne.

This is what is so great about festivals: You get to enjoy music that you otherwise might not listen to.
