The ASB senate approved the designs for an expansion to the Parks building that will include a new cafeteria for the college.
The Parks expansion and new cafeteria are part of the Student Campus Enhancement Fund, which was an agreement that was passed by a vote by the student body, and would increase student fees but provide numerous campus improvements.
Updates on all the enhancement fund projects were also presented to the senate and are shown in the table at the right.
The café will seat between 300 and 350 people and will be approximately 5,600 square feet. That is a little less than the 6,000 square feet promised to the student originally.
Patrick Sisneros, vice president of college services, said he wanted to make sure there are no mistakes or problems in the designs. "We want to do this right the first time, because it's much more costly if you fix problems after the fact," he said.
According to Brent Thompson, student senators have seen designs similar to the proposed one at Highline Community College and Pierce College. "It's gorgeous, it's fun to use, and it works very well for them," said Thompson about their designs.
The tentative starting date for the Parks expansion/new cafeteria is summer 2010. It will take 14 to 16 months to complete.
