Foreign Film Fixes for Spring: Le fabuleux destin l'Amelie Poulain review
Date:
March 12, 2010 (All day)

"Amelie" is the quirky tale of a young woman who entertains herself by enacting a series of benevolent deeds.

With a rich and radiant color scheme and a profound portrayal of characters, the film is aesthetically and intellectual pleasing.

Amelie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) was raised by a pair of eccentric parents who allowed her narrow exposure to the world outside her home.

As an adult, Amelie is free, independent and exceedingly quirky.

Amelie begins a series of unconventional and generous acts.

She returns a forgotten box of childhood knickknacks to an elderly man, inspiring the individual to enact a deed of his own; pilfers her father's garden gnome and sends it on a trip around the world and plays matchmaker to a hypochondriac pharmacist and a bad-tempered cafe dweller.

The film will take you through a strange and amusing tale, guided by soft-spoken narration and a visual blast of vibrancy.
